Imam al-Nawawi records in his book Meadows of the Righteous:
باب وجوب الشكر
Chapter on the obligation of gratitude.

Allah Almighty said:
فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِي وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ
Remember Me, I will remember you. And thank Me, and never be ungrateful.
Surat al-Baqarah 2:152
And Allah said:
وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ
Remember when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more. But if you are ungrateful, surely My punishment is severe.’
Surat Ibrahim 14:7
And Allah said:
وَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ شَرِيكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ وَلِيٌّ مِّنَ الذُّلِّ وَكَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيرًا
Say, ‘All praise is for Allah, who has never had any offspring, nor does He have a partner in governing the kingdom, nor is He pathethic, needing a protector. And revere Him immensely.’
Surat al-Isra’ 17:111
And Allah said:
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ يَهْدِيهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِإِيمَانِهِمْ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهِمُ الْأَنْهَارُ فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ دَعْوَاهُمْ فِيهَا سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَتَحِيَّتُهُمْ فِيهَا سَلَامٌ وَآخِرُ دَعْوَاهُمْ أَنِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Surely, those who believe and do good, their Lord will guide them to Paradise through their faith, rivers will flow under their feet in the Gardens of Bliss, in which their prayer will be, ‘Glory be to You, O Allah!’ and their greeting will be, ‘Peace!’ and their closing prayer will be, ‘All praise is for Allah, Lord of all worlds!’
Surat Yunus 10:9-10
Abu Huraira reported: On the night of the Ascension, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was presented with two vessels, one full of wine and the other full of milk. The Prophet looked at them both, and he chose the vessel full of milk. The Angel Gabriel, upon him be peace, said:
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَاكَ لِلْفِطْرَةِ لَوْ أَخَذْتَ الْخَمْرَ غَوَتْ أُمَّتُكَ
All praise is due to Allah, who has guided you to that which is natural, for had you chosen the wine your nation would have been led astray.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
كُلُّ أَمْرٍ ذِي بَالٍ لَا يُبْدَأُ فِيهِ بِالْحَمْدِ أَقْطَعُ
Every matter of importance that is not begun with the praise of Allah will be left deficient.

Abu Musa al-Asha’ri reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
إِذَا مَاتَ وَلَدُ الْعَبْدِ قَالَ اللَّهُ لِمَلَائِكَتِهِ قَبَضْتُمْ وَلَدَ عَبْدِي فَيَقُولُونَ نَعَمْ فَيَقُولُ قَبَضْتُمْ ثَمَرَةَ فُؤَادِهِ فَيَقُولُونَ نَعَمْ فَيَقُولُ مَاذَا قَالَ عَبْدِي فَيَقُولُونَ حَمِدَكَ وَاسْتَرْجَعَ فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ ابْنُوا لِعَبْدِي بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَسَمُّوهُ بَيْتَ الْحَمْدِ
When the child of a servant dies, Allah says to the angels, ‘Have you taken the life of My servant’s child?’ They say yes. Allah says, ‘Have you taken the fruit of his heart?’ They say yes. Allah says, ‘What has My servant said?’ They say, ‘He has praised You and said to Allah we belong and to Allah we return.’ Allah says, ‘Build a house for My servant in Paradise and name it the House of Praise.’

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَيَرْضَى عَنْ الْعَبْدِ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الْأَكْلَةَ فَيَحْمَدَهُ عَلَيْهَا أَوْ يَشْرَبَ الشَّرْبَةَ فَيَحْمَدَهُ عَلَيْهَا
Verily, Allah is pleased with a servant who praises Him when he eats, or praises Him when he drinks.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
لاَ يَشْكُرُ اللَّهَ مَنْ لاَ يَشْكُرُ النَّاسَ
Whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah.

In another narration, the Prophet said:
مَنْ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ الْقَلِيلَ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ الْكَثِيرَ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ النَّاسَ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ اللَّهَ عز وَجل
Whoever is not grateful for small things will not be grateful for large things. Whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah Almighty.
