Anas ibn Malik reported: The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, a servant does not have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself of goodness.”

Shaykh al’-Abbad commented, “Some scholars said the meaning of ‘brother’ here is universal brotherhood, which is brotherhood by ancient lineage. That includes the unbelievers because they are brothers by lineage from the perspective that Adam, upon him be peace, is the father of all… Yes, there is no doubt that one should love for others among the unbelievers to be guided, to supplicate for them, and to ask Allah Almighty to grant it to them.”
