Asma’ bint Yazid reported: She was with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while men and women were sitting with him. The Prophet said, “Perhaps a man will say what he did intimately in his home? Perhaps a woman will tell others what she did intimately with her husband?” The people sat in embarrassed silence, so I said, “By Allah, the women say such and the men do such!” The Prophet said, “Do not do this, for it is like a male devil and a female devil fornicating in the street while people watch.”

Imam al-Munawi commented, “For such a person is ‘like a devil,’ meaning this conduct resembles its ugliness and prohibition. The purpose of the hadith is to warn against it and to clarify that it is among the gravest unlawful deeds, indicating baseness and vulgarity of character.”

عن أَسْمَاء بِنْت يَزِيد أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالرِّجَالُ وَالنِّسَاءُ قُعُودٌ عِنْدَهُ فَقَالَ لَعَلَّ رَجُلًا يَقُولُ مَا يَفْعَلُ بِأَهْلِهِ وَلَعَلَّ امْرَأَةً تُخْبِرُ بِمَا فَعَلَتْ مَعَ زَوْجِهَا فَأَرَمَّ الْقَوْمُ فَقُلْتُ إِي وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُنَّ لَيَقُلْنَ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَيَفْعَلُونَ قَالَ فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا فَإِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ مِثْلُ الشَّيْطَانِ لَقِيَ شَيْطَانَةً فِي طَرِيقٍ فَغَشِيَهَا وَالنَّاسُ يَنْظُرُونَ
