Ibn Sa’d reported: Al-Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “If people had patience when they are afflicted with trials from their ruler, it would not be long before Allah relieves them of it. Yet, they take refuge in their swords, so they are left to their swords. By Allah, not even for a single day did they bring about any good.” Then, he recited the verse, “The good word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because they had patiently endured, and We destroyed everything Pharaoh and his people were building and constructing.” (7:137)
