Ibn Umar reported: Umar bought a silk cloak from the market and took it to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying, “O Messenger of Allah, take it and wear it on Eid and when the delegations visit you.” The Prophet said, “This clothing is for those who have no share in the Hereafter.” After a while, the Prophet sent a silk cloak to Umar. Umar came to the Prophet with the cloak, saying, “O Messenger of Allah, you said this clothing was for those who have no share in the Hereafter, yet you have sent me this cloak?” The Prophet said, “Sell it or take care of your needs with it.”
And the Prophet said, “Verily, I did not send it for you to wear it. Rather, I sent it for you to make veils out of it for your women.”

عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ أَخَذَ عُمَرُ جُبَّةً مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ تُبَاعُ فِي السُّوقِ فَأَخَذَهَا فَأَتَى بِهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ابْتَعْ هَذِهِ تَجَمَّلْ بِهَا لِلْعِيدِ وَالْوُفُودِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ فَلَبِثَ عُمَرُ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَلْبَثَ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِجُبَّةِ دِيبَاجٍ فَأَقْبَلَ بِهَا عُمَرُ فَأَتَى بِهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ قُلْتَ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ وَأَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيَّ بِهَذِهِ الْجُبَّةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَبِيعُهَا أَوْ تُصِيبُ بِهَا حَاجَتَكَ
وقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا وَلَكِنِّي بَعَثْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتُشَقِّقَهَا خُمُرًا بَيْنَ نِسَائِكَ
