Hadith on Tazkiyyah: Purify your heart from malice and deceit

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me, “Young man, if you are able every morning and evening to remove any malevolence in your heart towards anyone, then do so.” Then, the Prophet said to me, “Young man, that is my Sunnah. Whoever revives my Sunnah has loved me, and whoever loves me will be with me in Paradise.”

Imam al-Qari commented, “Toward ‘anyone’ means in general for the believers and unbelievers. Good will for the unbelievers is to strive for them to accept faith and endeavor to save them from the perils of destruction by action, speech, and reconciling them with one’s wealth as much as possible… that is, you must empty your heart of malevolence.”
