Hadith on Jumu’ah: Warning those who miss Friday prayer without excuse

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said about people who did not attend Friday prayer, “I had felt like ordering a man to lead people in prayer, then I would burn down the houses of men who were absent.

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim

Ibn Hajar said, “Indeed, the meaning is only rhetorical. That refers to the punishment with which unbelievers are punished in the Hereafter. A consensus has formed on the prohibition of punishing Muslims like that.”

وقال ابن حجر وَإِنَّمَا الْمُرَادُ الْمُبَالَغَةُ وَيُرْشِدُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ وَعِيدُهُمْ بِالْعُقُوبَةِ الَّتِي يُعَاقَبُ بِهَا الْكُفَّارُ وَقَدِ انْعَقَدَ الْإِجْمَاعُ عَلَى مَنْعِ عُقُوبَةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ بِذَلِكَ
