Hadith on Istighfar: Allah pleased by asking His forgiveness

Ali ibn Abi Talib reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, your Lord is delighted when His servant says: O Lord, forgive my sins, for none forgives sins besides You.”

عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَيَعْجَبُ مِنْ عَبْدِهِ إِذَا قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي إِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ غَيْرُكَ
