Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “If the treasures of Persia and Rome were opened for you, what kind of people will you be?” Abdur Rahman ibn Awf said, “We will be as Allah has ordered us.” The Prophet said, “Perhaps you will be something else. You will compete with each other, then envy each other, then turn away from each other, then hate each other, and so on. Then, you will go to the poor emigrants and make some of them slavedrivers over others.”

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِذَا فُتِحَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ فَارِسُ وَالرُّومُ أَيُّ قَوْمٍ أَنْتُمْ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ نَقُولُ كَمَا أَمَرَنَا اللَّهُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ تَتَنَافَسُونَ ثُمَّ تَتَحَاسَدُونَ ثُمَّ تَتَدَابَرُونَ ثُمَّ تَتَبَاغَضُونَ أَوْ نَحْوَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ تَنْطَلِقُونَ فِي مَسَاكِينِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ فَتَجْعَلُونَ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَى رِقَابِ بَعْضٍ
