Hadith on Dua: Use comprehensive and concise supplications

Aisha reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, entered my room while I was praying and I was slow to take care of his need. The Prophet said, “O Aisha, you must use comprehensive and concise supplications.” When I finished, I said, “O Messenger of Allah, what are comprehensive and concise supplications?” The Prophet said, “Say: O Allah, I ask You for all that is good, now and in the life to come, what I know of it and do not know. I seek refuge in You from all that is evil, now and in the life to come, what I know of it and do not know. I ask You for Paradise and the words and deeds that bring me close to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Hellfire and the words and deeds that bring me close to it. I ask You for the same as Muhammad has asked You, and I seek refuge in you from the same as Muhammad has sought refuge in You. Whatever You decree for me, let it result in upright guidance.
