Anas ibn Malik reported: I went out with a man to the market and some merchandise was being sold, so I bartered with him. The seller said, “Thirty coins.” The man thought to himself and said, “I will take it for forty coins.” The seller said, “What makes you say this when I would give it to you for less?” The man thought to himself again and he said, “I will take it for fifty coins.” The seller said, “What makes you say this when I would give it to you for less?” The man said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: A servant does not have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself. I thought you would do better with fifty coins.”
