Ibn Mas’ud on Zuhd: Companions better than you by asceticism

Abdur Rahman ibn Yazid reported: Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “You strive for longer and you perform more prayers than the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, yet they are better than you.” They said, “Why is that?” Ibn Mas’ud said, “They were less interested in the world, and more desirous of the Hereafter than you.”
