Abu Umamah reported: I never prayed behind the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while I was near to him but that I would hear him say at the end of every prayer, “O Allah, forgive all of my sins and mistakes. O Allah, refresh me and protect me and guide me to righteous deeds and character, for none can guide to its righteousness and divert its evil but You.”

عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ مَا صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا قَرِيبٌ مِنْهُ إِلا سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلاةٍ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي خَطَايَايَ وَذُنُوبِي كُلَّهَا اللَّهُمَّ أَنْعِشْنِي وَأَجِرْنِي وَاهْدِنِي لِصَالِحِ الأَعْمَالِ وَالأَخْلاقِ فَإِنَّهُ لا يَهْدِي لِصَالِحِهَا وَلا يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلا أَنْتَ
