Hadith on Pardon: Conceal legal offenses from punishment if possible

Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Keep away from these ugly deeds that Allah has prohibited. Whoever falls into them should cover himself with the covering of Allah Almighty.”

Al-Shafi’i, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “It is narrated from Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, that in the lifetime of the Prophet (ṣ) he commanded a man who committed a legal offense to conceal his deed. Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, commanded the same.”
