Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi reported: Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Make yourself a scale between you and others. Love for those besides you what you love for yourself, and hate for them what you hate for yourself. Do not wrong others, as you would love not to be wronged. Be good to others, as you would love to be treated well.”

Ibn Abi al-Hadid said, “One of the captives said to a slave-owner, ‘Deal with me as you would love to be dealt with by Allah,’ so the owner freed him.”
