Hadith on Punishment: No corporal punishment if results in unjust death

Ali reported: A servant girl belonging to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, committed adultery and he ordered me to whip her. She was enduring post-natal bleeding and I feared that if I whipped her I would kill her. I mentioned that to the Prophet and he said, “You have done well.”
