Al-Miqdam ibn Ma’di reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up for the people and praised Allah as is due to Him, saying, “Verily, Allah instructs you to treat women well, and again, Allah instructs you to treat women well, for they are your mothers, your daughters, and your aunts. A man from the People of the Book would stay married to a woman who owned not as much as a thread, neither of them finding the other attractive.”

Imam al-San’ani commented, “Each of them was patient with the other until they died in old age. This is news about the companionship of the People of the Book with their wives and encouragement for believers to adopt these characteristics, as they are more worthy of practicing good companionship than the People of the Book. The believers are the first to adopt every noble character trait.”

عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ مَعْدِي أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ فِي النَّاسِ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ يُوصِيكُمْ بِالنِّسَاءِ خَيْرًا إِنَّ اللهَ يُوصِيكُمْ بِالنِّسَاءِ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّهُنَّ أُمَّهَاتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُكُمْ وَخَالَاتُكُمْ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ يَتَزَوَّجُ الْمَرْأَةَ وَمَا تُعَلِّقُ يَدَاهَا الْخَيْطَ فَمَا يَرْغَبُ وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمَا عَنْ صَاحِبِهِ
