Ibn Abbas on Fasting: Permission to taste food while fasting if needed

Ibn Qudamah reported: Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “There is nothing wrong for a fasting person to taste food, vinegar, or something he wants to purchase.”

Ahmad ibn Hanbal said, “I prefer to avoid tasting food, but there is no harm and nothing wrong if it is done.”
