Hadith on Insults: Major sin to over-retaliate to provocation

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, among the worst of major sins, is to attack the reputation of a Muslim man without a just cause, and among the major sins is to revile twice in response to one insult.
