Hadith on Shafa’a: The Prophet chooses intercession as mercy

Abdullah ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “I had a choice between the intercession and only half of my nation entering Paradise, so I chose the intercession, as it is broader and more fulfilling. Do you think it is for the righteous and the pure? No, rather it is for the sinners and the impure.

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ خُيِّرْتُ بَيْنَ الشَّفَاعَةِ أَوْ نِصْفِ أُمَّتِي فِي الْجَنَّةِ فَاخْتَرْتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ لِأَنَّهَا أَعَمُّ وَأَكْفَى أَتُرَوْنَهَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ الْمُنْتَقِينَ لَا وَلَكِنَّهَا لِلْخَاطِئِينَ الْمُتَلَوِّثِينَ
