Umar on Greed: Greed is poverty and slavery to materialism

‘Urwah reported: Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, would say in his sermons, “You know that greed is poverty and renunciation is independence. Verily, whoever renounces his desire for what people have, he will be independent of them.”
