Al-Qushayri reported: Ibrahim ibn Adham, may Allah have mercy on him, went out to one of the prairies and he was confronted by a soldier. The soldier said, “Where are the residents?” Ibrahim pointed to the graveyard, so the soldier struck his head and wounded him. When the soldier passed by later, it was said to him, “He is Ibrahim ibn Adham, the ascetic of Khorasan!” The soldier came to him apologizing, and Ibrahim said, “When you struck me, I asked Allah Almighty to give you Paradise.” The soldier said, “Why?” Ibrahim said, “I knew I would be rewarded for it, so I did not want my share from you to be good and your share from me to be evil.”
