Hadith on Fitnah: Trials afflict those with good words, corrupt hearts

Ibn Umar reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah Almighty said: I have created My creatures with tongues as sweet as honey and hearts as bitter as aloes. I swear by Myself, I will surely decree a tribulation for them that will leave even the forbearing among them deranged. Do they try to delude Me or conspire against Me?

عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى قَالَ لَقَدْ خَلَقْتُ خَلْقًا أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ أَحْلَى مِنْ الْعَسَلِ وَقُلُوبُهُمْ أَمَرُّ مِن الصَّبْرِ فَبِي حَلَفْتُ لَأُتِيحَنَّهُمْ فِتْنَةً تَدَعُ الْحَلِيمَ مِنْهُمْ حَيْرَانًا فَبِي يَغْتَرُّونَ أَمْ عَلَيَّ يَجْتَرِئُونَ
