Hadith on Dishonesty: Beware of telling lies about small things

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: My mother called me one day while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was seated in our house. She said, “Come here and I will give you.” The Prophet said to her, “What do you want to give him?” She said, “I will give him a date.” The Prophet said, “If you had not given him anything, it would have been recorded against you as a lie.

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ دَعَتْنِي أُمِّي يَوْمًا وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَاعِدٌ فِي بَيْتِنَا فَقَالَتْ هَا تَعَالَ أُعْطِيكَ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَا أَرَدْتِ أَنْ تُعْطِيهِ قَالَتْ أُعْطِيهِ تَمْرًا فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَا إِنَّكِ لَوْ لَمْ تُعْطِهِ شَيْئًا كُتِبَتْ عَلَيْكِ كِذْبَةٌ
