Safwan ibn ‘Assal reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, towards the Western sun is an open gate the length of which is seventy years of travel. It will remain open for repentance until the sun rises from there. When the sun rises from the West, the faith of any soul will not benefit it if it had not had faith earlier or earned goodness from its faith.”

عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَسَّالٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ مِنْ قِبَلِ مَغْرِبِ الشَّمْسِ بَابًا مَفْتُوحًا عَرْضُهُ سَبْعُونَ سَنَةً فَلَا يَزَالُ ذَلِكَ الْبَابُ مَفْتُوحًا لِلتَّوْبَةِ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ نَحْوِهِ فَإِذَا طَلَعَتْ مِنْ نَحْوِهِ لَمْ يَنْفَعْ نَفْسًا إِيمَانُهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ آمَنَتْ مِنْ قَبْلُ أَوْ كَسَبَتْ فِي إِيمَانِهَا خَيْرًا
