Hadith on Witr: Allah loves what is odd in number

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah is numerically odd, and He loves what is odd in number.

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim

Al-Nawawi said, “It means the right of Allah is one, who has no partner or equal. It means He loves the odd and favors it in deeds and many acts of obedience. He appointed the prayer as five, ablution as three, circumambulation as seven… It is said it applies to one who worships Allah with monotheism and sincerity for Him alone.”

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ

قال النووي وَمَعْنَاهُ فِي حَقِّ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى الْوَاحِدُ الَّذِي لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَلَا نَظِيرٌ وَمَعْنَى يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ تَفْضِيلُ الْوِتْرِ فِي الْأَعْمَالِ وَكَثِيرٍ مِنَ الطَّاعَاتِ فَجَعَلَ الصَّلَاةَ خَمْسًا وَالطَّهَارَةَ ثَلَاثًا وَالطَّوَافَ سَبْعًا … وَقِيلَ إِنَّ مَعْنَاهُ مُنْصَرِفٌ إِلَى صِفَةِ مَنْ يَعْبُدِ اللَّهَ بِالْوَحْدَانِيَّةِ وَالتَّفَرُّدِ مُخْلِصًا لَهُ
