Ibn Jurayj reported: I said to ‘Ata’, may Allah have mercy on him, “Do you disapprove of us praying in the midst of graves or in a mosque pointing towards a grave?” ‘Ata’ said, “Yes, that has been prohibited.” I said, “What do you think if there is a small space between me and it, or in a mosque elevated by a cubit?” ‘Ata’ said, “It is hateful to pray in the midst of graves.”
Tawus said, “I do not know anything about it but that prayer in the midst of graves is severely disapproved.”

عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ رحمه الله أَتَكْرَهُ أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ فِي وَسَطِ الْقُبُورِ أَوْ فِي مَسْجِدٍ إِلَى قَبْرٍ قَالَ نَعَمْ كَانَ يُنْهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ قُلْتُ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ قَبْرٌ وَبَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ سَعَةٌ غَيْرُ بُعْدٍ أَوْ عَلَى مَسْجِدٍ ذِرَاعٌ فَصَاعِدًا قَالَ يُكْرَهُ أَنْ يُصَلَّى وَسَطَ الْقُبُورِ
قال طَاوُس لَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا كَانَ يَكْرَهُ الصَّلَاةَ وَسَطَ الْقُبُورِ كَرَاهَةً شَدِيدَةً
