Hadith on Muhammad: Satan exaggerates status of the Prophet

Abdullah ibn Shikhir reported: I proceeded with the delegation of the tribe of ‘Amir to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. We said, “You are our master.” The Prophet said, “The Master is Allah Almighty.” We said, “You are the best and greatest among us.” The Prophet said, “Say what you have to say, or part of it, but do not take Satan as a guardian.

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيْر قَالَ انْطَلَقْتُ فِي وَفْدِ بَنِي عَامِرٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْنَا أَنْتَ سَيِّدُنَا فَقَالَ السَّيِّدُ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى قُلْنَا وَأَفْضَلُنَا فَضْلًا وَأَعْظَمُنَا طَوْلًا فَقَالَ قُولُوا بِقَوْلِكُمْ أَوْ بَعْضِ قَوْلِكُمْ وَلَا يَسْتَجْرِيَنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ
