Hadith on Shirk: Safeguarding words from lesser idolatry

Qutaylah reported: A Jewish man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, “Indeed, you are setting up rivals with Allah and associating partners with Him when you say, ‘What Allah wills and you will,’ and when you swear by the Ka’bah!” Then the Prophet ordered them to say if they intend to swear an oath, “By the Lord of the Ka’bah,” and for them to say instead, “What Allah wills and then what you will.”
