Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas reported: On the day Mecca was liberated, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, granted general amnesty to all of the people except for four men and two women. They were ‘Ikramah ibn Abi Jahl, Abdullah ibn Khatal, Maqis ibn Subabah, and Abdullah ibn Sa’d. As for ‘Ikramah, he fled to the sea and they were hit by a storm. The crew of the ship said, “Turn sincerely to Allah, for your gods can do nothing for you here!” ‘Ikramah said, “By Allah, if nothing can save me on the sea but sincerity to Allah, nothing can save me on land but Him! O Allah, I promise You that if You deliver me from my situation, I will go to Muhammad and put my hand in his hand and I will surely find him forgiving and generous!” Then, ‘Ikramah came and he accepted Islam.
