Hadith on Hudud: Avoid legal punishment unless it becomes public

Abdullah ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Avoid these filthy crimes that Allah has prohibited. Whoever commits one, let him seek concealment from Allah and repent to Allah. Verily, whoever shows us his deed, we will retaliate according to the Book of Allah.

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَر قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اجْتَنِبُوا هَذِهِ الْقَاذُوَةَ الَّتِي نَهَى الله عَنْهَا فَمَنْ أَلَمَّ فَلْيَسْتَتِرْ بِسِتْرِ اللهِ تَعَالَى وَلْيَتُبْ إلَى اللهِ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ يُبْدِ لَنَا صَفْحَتَهُ نُقِمْ عَلَيْهِ كِتَابَ اللهِ
