Ibn Umar on Qadr: Accepting Allah’s decree at death of a beloved

Nafi’ reported: A son of Abdullah ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, complained of an illness and Ibn Umar was very distraught over him so much that some people said: We are afraid for this old man because of what might happen to his boy! The boy died and Ibn Umar went out to his funeral. There was not a man more visibly happy than him, so he was asked why. Ibn Umar said, “Verily, it was only mercy for him and when the decree of Allah came to pass, we accepted it.”
