Umar on Abu Bakr: He was our master, the best of us

Aisha reported: Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Abu Bakr was the most beloved of us to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, as he was the best of us and our master.”

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Arna’ut

Bakr ibn ‘Abdullah said, “Abu Bakr was surely not the best of people because he prayed and fasted more than others, but rather it was only due to something special in his heart.”
