Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: When Umar came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he said, “We have heard wonderous stories from the Jews. Shall we write them down?” The Prophet said, “Will you fall into an abyss like the Jews and Christians? I have come to you with a clear, pure path. If Moses were alive today, he would have no choice but to follow me.”

عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أَتَاهُ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ إِنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَحَادِيثَ مِنْ يَهُودَ تُعْجِبُنَا أَفَتَرَى أَنْ نَكْتُبَ بَعْضَهَا فَقَالَ أَمُتَهَوِّكُونَ أَنْتُمْ كَمَا تَهَوَّكَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى لَقَدْ جِئْتُكُمْ بِهَا بَيْضَاءَ نَقِيَّةً وَلَوْ كَانَ مُوسَى حَيًّا مَا وَسِعَهُ إِلا اتِّبَاعِي
