Yazid ibn al-‘Asamm reported: Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, was asked about the slain at the battle of Siffin. Ali said, “Our slain and their slain are in Paradise, and the matter will be referred to myself and Mu’awiyah at the Reckoning.”

In another narration, Yazid said: When the truce between Ali and Mu’awiyah was concluded, Ali went out and passed by the slain from his camp. Ali said, “These are in Paradise.” Then, he passed by the slain from Mu’awiyah’s camp. Ali said, “These are in Paradise, and the matter will be referred to myself and Mu’awiyah at the Reckoning. The judgment will be in my favor, and Mu’awiyah will be forgiven. Such was told to me by my beloved, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.”
