Abu Ma’shar reported: Muhammad ibn Ka’b, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “Whomever the Quran reaches, it is as if Allah is speaking to him.”

Imam al-Ghazali commented, “If that is presumed, let him not take the formal study of the Quran as his main task. Rather, let him recite as a servant reads the book of his Master, who has written it for him to meditate upon and to act upon what it requires.”
