Hadith on Dua: Prohibition of prayer against people by name

Abdullah ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to supplicate against four people until Allah Almighty revealed the verse, “You have no say in the matter. It is up to Allah to turn to them in mercy or punish them, for they are surely wrongdoers,” (3:128). Then, Allah guided them to Islam.

Imam Ibn Battal commented, “Allah said to His Prophet ‘you have no say in the matter’ of the supplication against these people, for among them are those decreed to repent and those decreed to be punished, so it is inevitable, but Allah alone wills it to be.”
