‘Ubayd ibn ‘Umayr reported: They used to beat and strangle Noah, upon him be peace, until he fainted. When he woke up, Noah said, “O Allah, forgive my people for they do not know.”

Al-Qadi ‘Iyad commented, “A similar statement was narrated from our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, on the day of Uhud. In this is their forbearance, patience, and compassion for their peoples and nations, that despite what they did to them and how they hurt them, they prayed for their forgiveness and excused them for their ignorance, as they had only been given a little knowledge.”
