Ibn Muflih reported: Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Supplication is a proportional punishment. Whoever supplicates against the one who wronged him, he has not been patient.”
Imam Ibn Muflih commented, “By that he means the supplicant has retaliated. Retaliation is permissible, but the Almighty said: Whoever endures patiently and forgives, surely this is a resolve to aspire to, (42:23)… If one supplicates against the wrongdoer to be hurt by the same amount with which he was hurt by him, that is justice.”
