Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “There will be a trial that makes people deaf, dumb, and blind. Whoever approaches it will be pulled into it. Unleashing the tongue during it is like striking with the sword.”

Imam al-Qari commented, “The meaning is that during such a trial, they do not distinguish between truth and falsehood, nor do they listen to sincere advice, nor to one enjoining right and forbidding wrong. Rather, whoever speaks the truth during it will be harmed and will fall into trials and tribulations… Unleashing the tongue during it is like the striking with the sword—that is, its effect is even more severe in causing harm.”
