Jabir ibn ‘Abdillah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When you are in fertile land, allow the riding animals to benefit from it and do not pass beyond the rest areas. When you are in barren land, hasten across it. Travel during the night, for the earth is traversed more easily at night.”

Imam Ibn Raslan commented, “His statement, ‘Do not pass beyond the rest areas,’ means do not go beyond the established stopping places to those farther ahead. Allah Almighty said, ‘And do not let your eyes pass beyond them,’ (18:28). For spending the night at the customary rest areas entails kindness to the riding animals, safety, and companionship with fellow travelers during the journey. Passing beyond them is in opposition to that. The scholars said: If an animal has been rented for travel, then none of those sharing the rental has the right to go beyond the customary rest areas or separate from the caravan by going ahead or falling behind, except with the permission of its owner.”

قال ابن رسلان أي لا تجاوزوا المنازل إلى ما بعدها قال الله تعالى وَلَا تَعْدُ عَيْنَاكَ عَنْهُمْ فإن في المبيت في المنازل المعهودة رفق بالدواب وأمان ورفقة يسير معها وفي مجاوزتها ضد ذلك قال العلماء وإذا كانت الدابة مستأجرة فليس لأحد المتاكريين مجاوزة المنازل المعهودة ولا مفارقة القافلة بتقدم ولا تأخر إلا برضا صاحبه
