Umar tapped him on the shoulder from behind, saying, \u201cFrom which People of the Book are you?\u201d The man said, \u201cI am a Jew.\u201d Umar said, \u201cWhat has forced you into what I see here?\u201d The Jew said, \u201cI am begging so I can pay tribute, for my needs and my old age.\u201d Umar took him by the hand, went with him to his house, and offered him something from inside. Then, Umar sent him to the public treasury, saying, \u201cLook at this man and his taxes! By Allah, we have not been fair to him, for we have eaten ourselves but left him in his old age!
