\u201cTell me about fasting the day of &#8216;Ashura.\u201d Ibn Abbas said, \u201cWhen you see the crescent of the month of al-Muharram, count the days and wake up to fast on the ninth day.\u201d I said, \u201cIs this how the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, fasted it?\u201d Ibn Abbas said, \u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Source: S\u0323ah\u0323i\u0304h\u0323 Muslim 1133<\/p>\n<p>Grade: <strong><em>Sahih<\/em><\/strong> (authentic) according to Muslim<\/p>\n<p>Imam al-Nawawi commented, &#8220;Al-Shafi&#8217;i, his companions, Ahmad, Ishaq, and others said it is
