over human beings is that they be provided for in a manner appropriate to them, even if they become old, disabled, or ill such that no benefit can be derived from them; that they not be burdened beyond what they can bear; that they not be brought together with others\u2014of their own kind or of another\u2014that would harm them through biting, goring, or wounding; that they be slaughtered properly if they are slaughtered; that their skin not be torn nor their bones broken until they have cooled and life has fully departed; that their young not be slaughtered in their sight; that they be kept separate when necessary; that their resting places and shelters be well maintained; that their males and females be brought together at the time of mating; and that their game not be struck or
