Aswad ibn Asram reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, instruct me.” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Can you control your tongue?” I said, “But what do I control if I cannot control my tongue?” The Prophet said, “Can you control your hands?” I said, “But what do I control if I cannot control my hands?” The Prophet said, “Do not say anything on your tongue except what is right, and do not stretch out your hand except to do good.”

عَنْ أَسْوَدَ بْنِ أَصرَمَ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَوْصنِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَلْ تَمْلِكُ لِسَانَكَ قُلْتُ فَمَا أَمْلِكُ إِذَا لَمْ أَمْلِكْ لِسَانِي قَالَ فَهَلْ تَمْلِكُ يَدَكَ قُلْتُ فَمَا أَمْلِكُ إِذَا لَمْ أَمْلِكْ يَدَيَّ قَالَ فَلا تَقُلْ بِلِسَانِكَ إِلا مَعْرُوفًا وَلا تَبْسُطْ يَدَكَ إِلا إِلَى خَيْرٍ
