Yunus ibn ‘Ubayd reported: Ibn Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “I have never envied anyone for something they had in the world. If he was among the people of Paradise, how could I envy him for something in the world while he will be sent to Paradise? If he was among the people of Hellfire, how could I envy him for something in the world while he will be sent to Hellfire?”

Imam Ibn Hibban commented, “From envy is born malice, and malice is the root of evil. Whoever harbors evil in his heart will have a bitter plant grow, the taste of which is anger and the fruit of which is regret.”
