Ibn Sirin on Hasad: How could I envy anyone in the world?

Yunus ibn ‘Ubayd reported: Ibn Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “I have never envied anyone over something they had in the world. For if he was among the people of Paradise, how could I envy him for something in the world while he will be sent to Paradise? If he was among the people of Hellfire, how could I envy him for something in the world while he will be sent to Hellfire?”

Abu Hatim said, “From envy is born malice, and malice is the root of evil. Whoever harbors evil in his heart, it produces a bitter tasting plant from which grows rage and its fruit is regret.”
